Life's a Beach

For this week's blog hop with Imagine if . .  Jo has asked half the team to show the fab new MDF xmas trees, and the 2nd half to show off more of the oversized tags.  I got to do the tags, which allows me to get a sneak look at the xmas trees before I have to do mine for next week.

I am trying hard to make all these projects useable, so decided to attach a spine between 2 tags and create a functional notebook.

First I had to attach the spin with some adhesive backed canvas, then all surfaces were covered with this gorgeous paper from Prima 'Seashore' collection, all edges were then inked with TH Distress Ink 'Frayed Burlap'.  A burlap trim was attached to the outside of the spine to cover the rough edges.

Then the fun began in earnest.  These gorgeous vintage beach prints are on a 'Paper Arts' paper available at Imagine if . .  , bling, sea creatures and a few flowers finish the fun vintage look.

Inside the photos have been place under a chipboard film strip.  The jotter pad was cut to fit then slipped into a slit on the back page for easy replacement.

Black & White

A new month brings a new challenge at Creative Craft Cottage, the theme this time is 'Black & White'.  This really made me put my thinking cap on for a while, but I'm happy with the choices I made.

I've always wanted to try a page with this quilted look, so when my sister decided to visit, I took advantage of her sewing skills and put her to work with me hand stitching all these squares.
Once the background has been completed it took a bit of thinking as what to do next.  The doily broke up the black nicely, then luckily I managed to find this gorgeous photo of my grandmother.
I've used a mixture of flowers from Retail Girl, Dusty Attic, Petaloo & I am Roses along with feathers & pearls.  The scrabble tiles, although not strictly black & white, match the vintage photo.

Thank you for visiting, come & join in with us at Creative Craft Cottage for the chance to win a wee prize.

Years Ago

My latest layout has a real vintage feel to it with its muted colours and the mixture of stripes, florals & stitching.  I have made this as my entry into the DSD monthly sketch-n-color challenge.  It has been quite intimidating following up last months winning entry, but I think this compares favourably.

I couldn't get the colours 100% matching with the limited supplies I have to work with, so hopefully I am close enough.

I started with 2 Kaisercraft 'Precious Moments' papers separated by DSD 'Trunk in the Attic' Nutmeg Nostalgia, which were all distressed, inked then stitched.  The colours in this gorgeous lace just worked so well with the sketch as well. All but one flower were either Spellbinders bitty blossoms or Marianne Designs mini roses.  The black & white photos, old doily, bling & scrabble tiles all add to the vintage feel also.

This has been fun to make, I hope Donna's lovely ladies like it also.  Come on over and join in the challenge, there are some awesome prizes up for grabs.

Thanks for visiting, have a happy, scrappy day.
